A selection of the BonFeu range is made from corten steel. Corten steel is a durable type of steel that is often used in garden designs. Garden fireplaces, flowerpots, art objects and other decorative objects are made from Corten steel to make the garden shine. Yet not everyone is familiar with this type of material. We would like to explain the advantages and characteristics of this durable type of steel.
What is corten steel?
Corten steel is a type of steel that contains copper. One characteristic of corten steel is its brown-orange rust colour and its long lifespan. But beware: this colour often only comes over time. Many Corten steel products are supplied blank. You might think that you have received the wrong product, but nothing could be further from the truth! It is known that corten steel is not (always) supplied with a rust look because the rust process has not yet started. Don’t worry, the rust process goes fast when you place the product outside. Due to weather conditions such as humidity and rain, a first layer of corrosion will quickly appear.
Do you want the Corten steel to rust faster?
Then you can first degrease the product with a cleaning product and then pour a salt solution over the corten steel. The detergent will remove the layer of wax from the corten steel and within a few days the corten steel will take on a beautiful orange colour.
Strong and durable material
Corten steel is also known as weather resistant steel. Corten steel products can be left outside in all weathers and will only become more beautiful the longer they are in place. An important property of corten steel is that it will not rust through, which gives it a long lifespan. This is because the first layer of corrosion stops further deterioration. The maintenance of a corten steel fireplace or fire bowl is therefore also low. The strength of the material is comparable to that of other alloy steels such as stainless steel. Super strong!
BonFeu garden fires of corten steel
A selection of the BonFeu fireplaces (BonGiano and BonTino) are made of corten steel. These garden fireplaces come standard with a wok ring and grill grid so you can also use them as an outdoor kitchen. The body of these garden fireplaces is made from corten steel so that the fire box is very sturdy.
Because steel has the property to rust, the pre-corroded and corten steel fireplaces are very popular. Within the BonFeu range there are also black steel fireplaces available.
Robust and multifunctional garden fires
The BonFeu fire bowls are made of 3mm thick corten steel. They are a true eye-catcher in the garden with their robust appearance. Even without burning wood in the fire bowl it is a beautiful addition to the garden.
The BonFeu fire bowls are available in 5 sizes from 60 cm to 150 cm. Besides the classic fire bowls on a round base there are also BonFeu fire bowls with two handles and three legs. These BonBowl Plus fire bowls are easy to move because of their handles and are available in 3 sizes: 60 cm, 80 cm and 100 cm.
