At BonFeu, we are always happy when our products are tested by experts. The BonBiza Corten Open is no exception. In order to get a good idea of its practical use, we asked Patrick Duits of Flame on BBQ to test the BonBiza for us. Patrick regularly tests various products related to BBQ and outdoor cooking and is therefore an authority in this field. We are therefore only too happy that he also wanted to put our BonBiza to the test. Below are his findings.
First impression
The first impression of the BonBiza Corten Open is very positive. Patrick is very pleased with the appearance of the firebowl. The Corten steel gives the fire bowl a robust and unique look. He is also very pleased with the size of the firebowl. With a diameter of 80 cm, there is enough room for several people to barbecue at the same time.
Mounting
Assembling the outdoor kitchen is very easy. The BonBiza consists of only five parts and can be assembled within minutes. It is also very handy that the outdoor kitchen is equipped with adjustable feet, so it can always be set up level.
Lighting
Lighting the BonBiza Corten Open is very easy. Patrick uses the ‘Swiss’ method for this, placing the large logs at the bottom and building upwards with smaller logs. Between the kindling he then puts two wicks which he ignites. The advantage of this method is that you have less smoke because the logs heat up before actual ignition.
Creating a fire
By playing with the placement of the wood, you can create different temperature zones on the plancha. The side of the plancha furthest from the fire is naturally colder than the part closer to it. By playing with this, you can let dishes warm up gently, and when you are ready, place them on the hot part for a delicious crispy crust.
Cooking on the BonBiza
Patrick is very enthusiastic about the possibilities of the BonBiza Corten Open. He has already prepared several dishes on it, such as stuffed pork tenderloin, grilled sausage wheel, pangasius fillet, pulled beef smashburger and sear sauce steak. The different temperature zones on the plancha make it possible to cook several dishes at the same time.
